In making this announcement, publisher David Dorfman stated Renter's Insurance is often thought of as "not required" by a tenant. "A tenant wrongly assumes that the Landlord is responsible for damage to a tenant's personal belongs in the event of such events as fire, flood or burglary, when in fact, the Landlord is typically not".



Another assumption is that Renter's Insurance costly. Depending on what you own and the type of coverage you elect, rates typically may be $12 per month and higher. There are a number of factors that vary by location and building type and how much you actually own or insure.



Dorfman said,” You might think you don't need Renter's Insurance if you rent, but think again." He continued. Many Landlords are now requiring tenants to apply for this coverage, which may be permitted in most states, as a condition of the tenancy.
