and Free Quotes offered by Rentlaw.com The National Landlord Tenant Guide.
By Anonymous November 15 2003--Rentlaw.com The National Landlord Tenant Guide launches free Renter’s Insurance Guide and Quote Services.
In making this announcement, publisher David Dorfman stated Renter's Insurance is often thought of as "not required" by a tenant. "A tenant wrongly assumes that the Landlord is responsible for damage to a tenant's personal belongs in the event of such events as fire, flood or burglary, when in fact, the Landlord is typically not".
Another assumption is that Renter's Insurance costly. Depending on what you own and the type of coverage you elect, rates typically may be $12 per month and higher. There are a number of factors that vary by location and building type and how much you actually own or insure.
Dorfman said,” You might think you don't need Renter's Insurance if you rent, but think again." He continued. "Add up the cost of your furniture, your electronic equipment, CD collection, computer, garments and other personal property. Can you afford to replace everything in the event of a fire or burglary?"
Many Landlords are now requiring tenants to apply for this coverage, which may be permitted in most states, as a condition of the tenancy.
Dorfman indicated that Rentlaw.com is developing a new system that will make it even easier for Insurance Companies and Agents to provide Renter's Insurance. Rentlaw.com currently utilizes the highly respected NetQuote.com to power the quote service.
We’ve had preliminary talks to several providers and agents to work with us to provide this service. We intend to introduce this service sometime in the 2nd Quarter 2004.
With over 50,000 members, Rentlaw.com continues to grow and is preparing to address the huge Rental Market. Dorfman commented "..with home prices continuing to escalate, more individuals and families are forced to continue to rent and therefore, should have Renter's Insurance to protect their personal property as well as provide a liability in the event someone should get hurt on their premises".
Renter's Insurance does not mean only Apartments. "People rent Homes, Condos, Co-ops - from small studios to luxury housing - each should have a policy".
Insurance Companies and agents that are interested in participating should contact the company for more details.
